Other Rhode Island Data Sources

A large number of public, private, and non-profit organizations collect data of interest to state and local planners.  Several of those data resources are linked below.

Economic

The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training generates and disseminates economic indicator data, including number of workers, number of businesses, industries of workers and businesses, wages, and receipts.  Those data are available for the state and at the city/town level by location of business at the Deparment of Labor and Training.

Education

Rhode Island’s resource for education data reporting, DataCenter combines key data from different sources – achievement results, demographics, opinion data, and more – to provide a holistic view of public education in Rhode Island.

Health

The Rhode Island Health Data provides a powerful cross-cutting, data-driven look at childhood and adolescent wellbeing in Rhode Island, including demographics, education, health, risk factors and protective factors.  Data are currently gathered from the RI Department of Education (RIDE), the RI Department of Health (HEALTH), the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education (RIBGHE), the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), and Providence Public Schools (PPSD). National sources include the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the U.S. Census. 

The Department of Health is responsible for managing the state’s vital statistics, such as fertility and mortality.  To make a vital statistics data request, please contact the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Housing

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development offers a mapping tool, CPD Maps with a “report” function, to help planners and the public access data on housing needs and supply in states, cities and towns, Census tracts, and other geographic boundaries.
