Agriculture

To ensure that we can sustain and grow our agriculture sector and our local food system, the Division of Planning Land Use Section works with the RI Resource Conservation and Development Area Council, the State Conservation Commission, the RI Agricultural Partnership, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the RIDEM Division of Agriculture. In 2010, an advisory committee made up of individuals representing state, quasi-state and federal agencies as well as independent non-profit organizations and others was assembled to draft a comprehensive Five-Year Strategic Plan for Rhode Island’s Agriculture. Adopted in 2011, it a plan that provides a vision for agriculture’s future, identifies needs, establishes measurable goals and objectives, and recommends specific courses of action.
