Navigating the Federal Shutdown: Tips for Data Users:
The federal government shutdown impacts all variety data of users since statistical agency websites have been taken offline, but here are alternatives with a list of alternate sources for federal statistics.
Here are a few resources offering U.S. Census Bureau information and other federal statistics you can tap into while official sites are offline:
- Stats America - from the Indiana Business Research Center for local, regional, and national data.
- Census Reporter – is a free, open-source platform focused on making American Community Survey (ACS) data easily accessible and includes 2023 1-Year ACS data, but has not yet incorporated the newly released 2024 data from September
- Esri – for mapping users, the GIS vendor publishes a number of U.S. Census Bureau data sets, including the ACS, through its ArcGIS Online Platform; their ESRI Federal Data and Federal User Communities also offer a wealth of alternate data sources
The RI State Data Center provides a range of resources based on demographic data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau and other agencies. In addition to preparing tables of Census and American Community Survey (ACS) data, the Data Center also produces population projections and monthly Census Data Bulletins.
